The Border Security Force (BSF) has partnered with United World Academy, Bengaluru, to offer free education to 100 children of its personnel, in an effort to support the families of those serving at the country’s borders. The agreement, which was signed on Monday at the BSF headquarters, ensures that the children of both current BSF members and those who have lost their lives in the line of duty will have access to high-quality education starting from the next academic year.
With a workforce of approximately 2.65 lakh personnel, BSF is primarily responsible for securing India’s borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh, while also playing a significant role in internal security operations. The MoU is a part of the BSF’s ongoing efforts to support its personnel and their families, helping to provide educational opportunities that would otherwise be out of reach for many.
Under this MoU, 100 seats will be provided to school-going children of serving BSF personnel, as well as children of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. BSF Director General Daljit Singh Chawdhary expressed his gratitude for this initiative and urged force personnel to take full advantage of the opportunity. He emphasized the importance of securing a better future for the children, who are the next generation of the nation’s leaders.
Chawdhary also directed commanding officers to ensure that every BSF member, from the highest ranks to the last trooper stationed on the border, is informed about the MoU. This information will be shared through troop meetings, known as ‘Sainik Sammelans,’ and other communication channels to make sure the message reaches all personnel.
The agreement guarantees the complete waiver of admission and academic fees for the 100 sponsored children. However, the families will be responsible for covering the boarding costs, which amount to approximately Rs 1.75 lakh per child annually. The United World Academy offers an International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum, in addition to being affiliated with Cambridge IGCSE, providing a global standard of education for students.
This initiative is not the first of its kind for Chawdhary. Prior to his appointment at BSF, he had signed similar agreements with the United World Academy for the children of personnel from the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and National Security Guard (NSG), as well as for the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), reflecting his commitment to enhancing the welfare of families in all branches of India’s security forces.
This collaboration not only benefits the families of BSF personnel but also promotes the idea of providing exceptional educational opportunities to children of those who serve in the nation’s defense forces, helping to ensure their future success and well-being. The BSF’s efforts to improve the lives of its personnel and their families are a testament to its commitment to social responsibility and the well-being of the nation’s security community.
