Over the past two decades, Cairn Oil & Gas, a subsidiary of Vedanta Limited, has played a crucial role in the socioeconomic transformation of Barmer district. Once feared as a kaalapani, the area has seen significant improvements in livelihoods, employment, agriculture, healthcare, and education due to the company’s sustained efforts.
A key component of Cairn’s initiative is the Cairn Enterprise Centre (CEC), a vocational training hub established to equip Barmer’s youth with essential technical skills and enhance their career prospects. The CEC focuses on skill development and facilitates the integration of local youth into the workforce or entrepreneurial ventures.
In a collaborative effort with the Department of Technical Education, Government of Rajasthan, Cairn organized a placement drive in Barmer last year. This drive resulted in 376 students being successfully placed with companies such as Adani Port, Tata Motors, and Maxxis India. Additionally, thirteen individuals received official job offers, and ten students from the Government ITI were provided with Letters of Intent (LOI) for employment upon completing their training in July.
Cairn’s program includes free residential training for youths from Barmer, Balotra, Sanchore, and Jalore. Upon completion, participants are either connected with job opportunities in reputable companies or supported in self-employment endeavors. This initiative has led to an increased interest in technical fields among students, highlighting the potential of STEM disciplines.
Cairn Oil & Gas remains committed to creating opportunities for rural youth in Barmer through continuous skill development initiatives and by promoting careers in the oil and gas industry.
