Canadian International School (CIS) was established in 1996 on a 15 acre property near Bengaluru. The school is affiliated to the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), Cambridge International Examination (CIE) and Ministry of Education in Ontario, Canada. This school is also accredited by the Council of International Schools and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).

CIS is a culturally-rich mosaic serving each student by providing a world-class international education, nurturing potential, developing life-long skills, and preparing students for an ever-changing global community. The school follows the Montessori system of learning in the kindergarten classes. For classes I-V it follows the North American (Ontario) Curriculum and for classes VI-X, it follows the IGCSE curriculum. The International Baccalaureate’s (IB) Diploma Program is followed in classes XI and XII.

Campus

CIS is located on a 15 acre lake front property, 30 minutes drive from the city centre en-route to the Bengaluru International Airport. The school has state of the art infrastructure to help facilitate an environment that is ideal to teach and learn. The school also has modern facilities for sports and recreation like swimming pool, 3 basketball courts, 2 tennis courts, full size soccer field, cricket pitch, multi-purpose halls, piano lab, 2 amphitheatres, and library.

Academics

CIS is accredited by the Council of International Schools and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and is authorized to follow the IGCSE, IBO and the Ontario curriculum

The kindergarten classes have children from 3 to 5 years of age and classes in music, art, physical education and computers are incorporated into their weekly schedule.

The elementary school (classes I-V) has a student-centered environment which is committed to appreciating and utilizing the students' strengths and individuality through collaborative teamwork to achieve academic excellence and to promote a foundation for life-long learning.

CIS follows the Ontario curriculum through the middle school years (classes VI-VII) and the progression from elementary to middle school, curriculum is smooth. In classes IX and X the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) provided by University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) is followed.

The two-year IGCSE programme is the world's most popular international qualification for 14-16 year olds. It develops students' skills in creative thinking, enquiry and problem solving, giving them excellent preparation for their next steps in education, progression to the IB Diploma, and equips them with skills for immediate employment.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is a demanding pre-university course of study, designed for highly motivated students in grades XI and XII. An alternative to the IB Diploma program is the Canadian International School Diploma a program developed in-house. This diploma is also recognized internationally and facilitates admission in post secondary institutions.

Extracurricular:

The school encourages extracurricular activities such as basketball, swimming, soccer, tennis, Bollywood dancing, music, drama, art, karate, yoga, cricket, robotics, volley ball etc.

Admission

The application form can be either collected from the school office or downloaded from the school website. The completed application form along with the 2 passport size photos of the child and the last two years academic reports can be couriered to the school. Students applying for classes VII-X have to write entrance examination for mathematics and science.

IB (classes XI and XII) candidates are required to write entrance exams in Mathematics, English and Science.

Upon confirmation of admission, a registration fee of Rs 35,000 has to be paid in cheque favoring Canadian International School and the transfer certificate from the last school needs to be furnished.

Accommodation

Both weekly and yearly boarding programs are available at the school to suit the needs of different families. The student residence provides comfortable accommodation with a family atmosphere. A total of 130 students (65 boys and 65 girls) can be accommodated in the two separate wings.

The individual rooms are designed to be occupied by two students of the same age/grade. The high standard furnishings include beds, wardrobes, desks, chairs lights, fans, bookshelves and bedside units. Each section of the boarding house has a furnished flat for house-parents, affording easy accessibility between students and staff. The residence has its own air conditioned spacious computer lab which doubles up as the study hall.
