On Monday, the CBI began a second round of polygraph tests on former RG Kar Medical College and Hospital principal Sandip Ghosh and five others as part of the investigation into the rape and murder of a woman doctor at the institution.
An officer stated that Ghosh’s inconsistent answers over the past 10 days led to the need for another round of polygraph tests. The initial tests were conducted on Saturday, with a follow-up test on arrested suspect Sanjay Roy at the Presidency Correctional Home on Sunday.
Ghosh and former medical superintendent Sanjay Vashisth are also under investigation for alleged financial irregularities at the institute. The case involves the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee on August 9, which sparked nationwide protests.
On Sunday, the CBI searched the homes of Ghosh and Vashisth. Ghosh provided files and documents at the CBI office in Salt Lake on Monday morning, while Vashisth appeared at Nizam Palace, where a forensic medicine professor was also questioned.
The CBI also searched 13 other locations in Kolkata, including residences and offices related to patient care and hospital management.
This investigation follows a complaint by Akhtar Ali, former deputy superintendent of RGKMCH, alleging that Ghosh and associates issued unauthorized tenders for food stalls, cafes, canteens, and urinals. Initial findings revealed that three traders received these “illegal” tenders.
The CBI’s investigations into the murder and financial irregularities are being conducted under the direction of the Calcutta High Court.
