12,000 more centres have been added for CBSE Board examinations

CBSE adds 12000 more centres to conduct board examinations for classes 10 and 12 ensuring social distancing. Union HRD minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said that the pending board exams will be held at 15,000 examination centres instead of 3,000 planned earlier.

Nishank said, “The class 10, 12 exams will now be conducted at over 15,000 exam centres across India. Earlier, CBSE was slated to hold exams at only 3,000 centres.” Now, 12000 more centres have been added to ensure ease in following the government’s guidelines for COVID-19.

It has been decided to increase the number of examination centres to ensure social distancing and minimise travelling time for students. Earlier, CBSE had announced that students will appear for their board examinations at their respective schools and not at an external centre. But the Home Ministry guidelines state that an examination centre cannot be alloted in Covid-19 containment zones.

The CBSE board examinations that were supposed to be conducted in March were postponed due to the nationwide Covid-19 induced lockdown. The examinations will now be held between July 1 and July 15. Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ announced the schedule on Twitter.

The minister had tweeted, “CBSE is taking into consideration some additional technical aspects before finalizing the date sheet of board exams, due to this, the datesheet of class 10th and 12th examination to be held today at 5 pm is now announced by Monday (18-05-2020).”
