CBSE class 12 board exam postponed, class 10 exam cancelled: Education Ministry

CBSE class 10 board exams will not be held this year and students will promoted on the basis of an internal assessment, while class 12 exams have been postponed to May 30, Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said. The board will issue a revised schedule for Class 12th board exams on June 1.

The decision was taken at a high-level meeting presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today. The meeting was attended by Pokhriyal, Education Secretary, and other government officials.

As per the previous schedule, CBSE board exams were slated to be held from May 4 to June 7 for both class 10 and 12. Results were likely to be announced by mid-July.

The decision comes after board exam students urged the Centre to cancel the CBSE board exams. Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister of Delhi also urged the Centre to cancel the CBSE board exams 2021 as well as Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh wrote to the Centre requesting their postponement. Congress leaders Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi also urged the central government to cancel the CBSE 2021 exams.

The Shiv Sena government in Maharashtra had also written to the education ministry, requesting it to develop a national consensus and possibly reschedule class 10 and 12 CBSE and other board exams.
