Noting that enhancement of professional development digitally is the need of the hour with the education system witnessing unprecedented disruption due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, the Delhi-based Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to launch a structured online programme to train teachers to help them reskill themselves as per today’s demand. The decision to launch the Online Teacher Training programme has been taken by the Board after receiving an overwhelming response for the technology-enabled teachers training that it had conducted on a pilot basis from the third week of April. For the pilot, more than 500 free online training sessions were conducted by 15 CBSE-Centre of Excellence (CoEs). According to Board, more than 35,000 teachers and principals from various parts of the country and abroad participated in the programmes.
A circular recently issued by the Board states that the training programme has three-fold objectives:
- Enable teachers to teach better and lead improved learning outcomes
- Continuously instil new knowledge and skills as per the demand so as to keep them at par with what is expected
- Help teachers revise and refresh the knowledge that has already been provided to them in their regular training and make it more relevant and practical
The online training session will be of an hour duration and as per the Affiliation Byelaw, attending five sessions will be considered as one day of training. No fee for participation will be charged and e-certifications will be issued by the Board. Around 1,200 online sessions are being planned by the CoEs in this month. The Board has requested schools to encourage their teachers to participate in the ongoing online training programmes being conducted by COEs and contact concerned CoE. Foreign schools affiliated to CBSE may contact the joint secretary (training), CBSE at jstraining2018@gmail.com.
