Overview

CEPT University, Ahmedabad, Gujarat formerly the Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology, is a private academic institution located near university area in Ahmedabad offering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in areas of natural and developed environment of human society and related disciplines.

CEPT University, Ahmedabad comprises five faculties; it was established as the School of Architecture in 1962 by The Ahmedabad Education Society (AES), followed by the School of Planning (1972), School of Building Science and Technology (1982) and School of Interior Design (1991) with aid from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, the Government of Gujarat and the Ford Foundation. The Faculty of Management focusing on habitat and project management was established in 2013.

Until 2002 the institute was autonomous and awarded its own diplomas while being recognized by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE). From 2002 to 2005 it was affiliated to Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University. In 2005 it became a university through the Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology University Act, 2005. It was renamed “CEPT University” through CEPT University Act, 2010.

CEPT University focuses on understanding, designing, planning, constructing and managing human habitats. Its teaching programs aim to build thoughtful professionals and its research programs deepen understanding of human settlements. CEPT University also undertakes advisory projects to further the goal of making habitats more liveable. Through its education, research and advisory activities, CEPT strives to improve the impact of habitat professions in enriching the lives of people in India’s villages, towns and cities.

Campus

CEPT University, Ahmedabad is situated on the Kasturbhai Lalbhai Campus. CEPT University facilities include the Lilavati Lalbhai library providing resources for learning and research supported by online access with over 46,000 resources and memberships to the British and NID library.

The laboratory facilities support technical education and provides testing facilities of surveying and levelling, geotechnical investigation, concrete technology, mechanics and infrastructure engineering. There are labs for computer, language, structural, environmental science, remote sensing, transportation and GIS.

CEPT University Ahmedabad also houses workshop facilities, enabling learning through experimentation. Workshops include a fabrication lab and have state-of-the art facilities for model making and works in wood, metal, ceramic and textile.

The university also houses hostels for boys and girls on campus along with other residential facilities including common rooms/mess, laundry services, PG housing melas, a common canteen and gym. There is a strong security and surveillance system to ensure the safety and well-being of residential students.

Placements:

CEPT University, Ahmedabad’s training and placement (T&P) cell conducts recruitment drives for final year students every year and imparts vocational training and internship opportunities to third year students. The T&P cell enhances the technical skills and hones personalities of the students to ensure their placements in reputed organisation. The placement drives are conducted as follows:

T&P cell invites various companies and corporations for pre placement talks and recruitment drives.
Students participating in the placement drive have to write the aptitude test which is followed by the group discussion and interview round.
Students clearing these rounds will be invited for the technical and HR interview, clearing which they shall receive offer letters from companies interested to hire them.

Placement Highlights: top recruiters include KPMG, HP, TCS, Infosys, IL&FS among others. Recent placement data recorded a highest CTC of INR 9.15 LPA while the median CTC was recorded at INR 4.6 LPA.

Undergraduate Admission- B.Arch./B.I.D.

Selection Criteria: NATA score/rank

Eligibility: 10+2 with PCM from a recognized board with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks

Admission Process:

Selection Criteria: JEE (Main) score and academic merit

Selection Criteria: Common admission test and interview

Eligibility: Bachelor’s degree in relevant stream/specialisation from a recognised university with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks.

Admission Process:

Candidates must apply and appear for the common admission test, followed by the personal interview.
Final admission will be based on candidate’s common admission test scores (30% weightage) and performance in interview (70% weightage). Shortlisted candidates may confirm their admission by verifying their documents and paying the fees.

Selection Criteria: CEPT written admission test scores and academic merit

Eligibility: Bachelor’s degree in relevant stream/specialisation from a recognised university with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks.

Admission Process:

Candidates must apply and appear for the CEPT written test.
Final admission will be based on candidate’s written test scores (40% weightage) and academic merit and qualification based on candidate’s profile (60%). Shortlisted candidates may confirm their admission by verifying their documents and paying the fees.

Postgraduate Admission- M.Des.

Selection Criteria: PG common admission test and FD PG subject specific design aptitude test scores

Eligibility: Bachelor’s degree in relevant stream/specialisation from a recognised university with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks.

Admission Process:

Candidates must register for admission by filling out the online application form along with the submission of documents and payment of application fees.
Candidates must apply and appear for exam 1: PG common admission test which is followed by exam 2: FD PG subject specific design aptitude test.
Final admission will be based on candidate’s UG results (5% weightage), work experience (10% weightage), portfolio evaluation (5% weightage), exam 1 scores (30% weightage) and exam 2 scores (50% weightage). Shortlisted candidates may confirm their admission by verifying their documents and paying the fees.

Postgraduate Admission- M.Tech.

Selection Criteria: Entrance exam scores and statement of purpose

Eligibility: Bachelor’s degree in relevant stream/specialisation from a recognised university with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks.

Admission Process:

Candidates must register for admission by filling out the online application form along with the submission of documents and payment of application fees.
Candidates must apply and appear for the entrance exam followed by the statement of purpose writing round.
Final admission will be based on candidate’s UG results (20% weightage), work experience (10% weightage), entrance exam scores (50% weightage) and statement of purpose (20% weightage). Shortlisted candidates may confirm their admission by verifying their documents and paying the fees.

Doctoral Admission- M.Phil./Ph.D.

Selection Criteria: academic merit/entrance test and personal interview or GATE/GRE scores

Eligibility: Master’s degree in relevant stream/specialisation from a recognised university.

Admission Process:

Candidates must register for admission by filling out the online application form along with the submission of documents and payment of application fees.
Candidates must apply and appear for the entrance exam followed by the personal interview. Candidates may also appear for the GATE/GRE exams.
Final admission will be based on candidate’s entrance test scores and performance in interview. GATE/GRE scores, if applicable, are also taken into account. Shortlisted candidates may confirm their admission by verifying their documents and paying the fees.

Achievement

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranked CEPT University, Ahmedabad fourth in the architecture category in 2020.

The university has produced noteable alumni over the years including the only Indian recipient of the Pritzker Prize Award B.V. Doshi.

Accommodation

Camus hostel facilities are available for boys. The CEPT University, Ahmedabad boys hostel comprises two blocks and offers facilities including a common room, gym, common canteen and ‘Paying Guest Housing Mela’.
