Challenging to hold exams during monsoon: Pandey

CBSE exam

12,000 more centres have been added for CBSE Board examinations

Uttarakhand education minister Arvind Pandey urged the state’s education department officials to identify those CBSE schools in the state which become inaccessible owing to the monsoons.

“It is a challenging task to hold exams during the rainy season in the hilly areas of the state as there is a risk of natural calamities,” said the minister. Chances of landslides and flashfloods increase during the rainy season in the hilly areas.

“Though the number of CBSE students is lesser in those regions as compared to plain districts, I have put forth these concerns during our recent meeting with the Centre,” Pandey told a local media house.

The state education department has initiated a helpline service for the teachers posted in the hilly and rural areas of the state.

Recently, an incoming western disturbance induced heavy rainfall across the Western Himalayan region, including Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, caused heavy thunderstorms and at least three incidents of cloudbursts have been reported in the state.

Heavy rains over the hilly regions lead to a sudden surge in river water levels. Shops, houses and buildings are washed away and lives remain at risk. There are many speculations regarding the date and mode of the CBSE examinations which will be announced by the boards on June 1.

The CBSE has proposed to hold class 12 board exams from July 15 to August 26. The exact date will be announced on June 1 after a review meeting. As of now, the Board has informed that the exam will be held in offline mode.
