CHRIST Univ launches PGD in Intl Education & IB Educator Certificate

CHRIST (Deemed to be University) has the unique distinction of being the first University in India to have accredited both its Bachelors in Education (B.Ed), as well as the Post Graduate Diploma in International Eduation (PGDIE), with the prestigious International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), Switzerland. Students studying on either of these courses, at the School of Education, are awarded an IB Educator certificate on completion of a short internship in IB Schools as part of their academic coursework. The University now announces the launch of a new Post Graduate Diploma in International Education, as a 1 year blended online academic course commencing June 2020, designed as a dual qualification for in-service or pre-service teachers working in schools (international and national curriculum), in India and other countries.

The PGDIE course will be delivered through online classes and weekend face to face workshops, organized on its Bangalore campus. This learning mode blends online teaching and contact classes and has the potential to revolutionize teacher education in India, as it makes the educational experience flexible for working professionals, teachers and academic leaders, who wish to enhance their academic qualifications. The course will mostly be conducted online and will enable teachers to balance their commitments, continue working in schools and study at their convenience. Moreover, the unique feature of this programme is its recognition from the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), for the issue of a dual qualification the “IB Educator Certificate in Teaching and Learning” (DP), valid as an international teacher certification particularly for IB Schools worldwide.

The PGDIE + IBEC curriculum will focus on delivering the following academic modules :

  1. Introduction to Education
  2. Underpinning Theories of IB
  3. Assessment and Learning
  4. Teaching and Learning (Part-1) in Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics/Biology/English/Social Sciences
  5. Professional learning
  6. Teaching and Learning (Part-2) in Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics/Biology/English/Social Sciences
  7. Internship
  8. Capstone Action research Project

The curriculum aims to equip teachers to understand teaching theories, learning strategies, assessment techniques, and develop their professional practice in both national and international curricula. Assignments and assessment strategies will contribute to intellectual capacity building, research skills and teaching strategies aligned to the IB Philosophy, Ethos, Vision and Mission. Trainees will need to submit four assignments written as reflective pieces of original work, including an internship report and a capstone research project. Online components will comprise  video conferencing sessions, digital learning, research papers, reflective essays, case studies, literature reviews, lesson plans, assessment templates, written assignments, online presentations, quizzes, and e-journal referencing. Experienced University Professors will deliver the academic modules along with  IBEN members, IB Workshop Leaders, eminent Professors of Foreign Universities as well as Educational Leaders of top IB Schools.

Applicants who possess any under graduate degree (UG) with B.Ed./Equivalent teaching license from a recognised University in India or abroad, or those who possess any under graduate degree (UG) and have minimum three years teaching experience in a school (any curriculum), are eligible to apply for admission to this rewarding programme. International students are encouraged to apply as well. As part of the practical training, an internship is essential in any curriculum school for a period of four weeks to qualify for the PGDIE. However, candidates who wish to avail an IB Educator Certificate, must pursue the Internship of 4 weeks, within an IBDP school (IBDP, IBMYP, IBPYP) selected by the trainee-teacher. Placement assistance will be provided by the University after the dual qualification is obtained.

The first batch will commence mid June 2020 to Mar 2021. PGDIE Fees are Rs. 75,000/-. Additional fee for availing the IBEC is $150 and payable directly to the IBO after qualifying the PGDIE. For further information refer to the Website: www.christuniversity.in
