Class one student dies of heart attack during school prayer in Jharkhand

Heart to Heart

A class one student died of a heart attack in Jamshedpur last week. According to the police, class one student Vaishnawi fell on the ground during prayer time. She was taken to hospital where she died during treatment. According to her parents she was a heart patient and was undergoing treatment.

The incident took place at Shiksha Niketan School of Jamshedpur. The school statement read, “During prayer time a staffer saw the girl falling on the ground in the classroom. She was rushed to Tata Motors hospital by principal Sushmita Dey and Vice Principal Rajani Pandey. She died during course of treatment. The doctors treating her informed that she was a heart patient.” The District Education Department has asked officials to issue a show cause notice to the school.

Meanwhile, activist Ankit Anand of Shiksha Satyagraha, which works on irregularities in schools in Jamshedpur, has alleged negligence from the part of school administration. He told, “I have demanded CCTV footage of entire incident to clear all confusion about the incident. It is nothing but sheer negligence of school administration, which should have taken proper care of the ailing child and not have made her stand in the sunlight.”

The school apparently also lacks trained professional who can apply first aid in case of any such incident as per the guidelines of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR).
