The Central government cancelled the CBSE Class XII board examinations of 2021 amid the Covid-19 pandemic after a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 1.
Earlier, in April the CBSE Class X board exam too was cancelled after noticing an increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in several states.
The Prime Minister had said on June 1 that the decision on cancelling the CBSE Class XII board examinations had been taken in the interest of students and to put an end to the anxiety among students, parents and teachers.
The board examinations are important for students as the Class X board scores are one of the key factors in choosing a course for Class IX and XII and the Class XII marks are important for getting admission to a college.
After the CBSE examinations were cancelled, the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations followed suit and cancelled the ICSE and ISC examinations of 2021 for the safety of students.
