Cloud Computing: Advantages and Disadvantages

October 7, 2022

Cloud Computing is one of the brilliant careers to pursue. Every candidate today is taking up cloud computing as it ensures better salaries and good job roles in the future. If one is also planning to take up Cloud Architect certifications, then this is all that one has to know – ranging from fundamentals to its disadvantages/advantages.

As far as these certifications are concerned, they help in providing one’s career with a necessary push. One will acquire the Cloud Computing-specific skills and knowledge that will help you in the long run. The certification will also provide with practical knowledge that will make oe a successful cloud architect/ engineer.

What is Cloud Computing?

Cloud Computing is defined as the process of delivering computer services online through networking. These services include networks, services, storage, analytics, databases, intelligence, etc. Cloud Computing helps in reducing operational costs and running the infrastructure smoothly & efficiently. They also help in scaling the business needs to derive more profits.

Now, let us see the disadvantages of Cloud Computing.

Disadvantages of Cloud Computing

Cloud Computing is a cost-effective way of storing data of organizations. It is a platform where information is permanently stored on the internet and temporarily stored on the user’s computer. However, amid many uses and advantages, there are some disadvantages to this technology as well.

Risk of Confidential Data

With Cloud Computing, there is always a risk that the user data can be accessed by other people. In simpler terms, the data of one user can be hacked easily. This is why it is always advised to have data and cloud protection because it protects the data from malicious hackers.

Relies on Internet Connectivity

Cloud Computing heavily relies on internet connectivity. When there is no internet connection, the cloud provider is unable to work. This is one of the biggest obstacles and drawbacks of cloud computing because developing countries and remote areas have unstable internet connections. This, in turn, increases the risks of attacks on the data and the server. Thus, areas with poor or no internet connection cannot make use of cloud computing to the fullest!

Security

Secrecy and security are two of the important factors that are compromised a bit in Cloud Computing. By using a cloud Computing system, one is ensured that the data will be safe and preserved. But whenever a problem arises, cloud servers come to a standstill. They stop working or begin showing errors in data. Thus, whenever an issue occurs in the software, cloud computing is unable to work properly, which hinders the productivity and progress of the company.

Vulnerability

Cloud Computing works online and the data is exposed to a wide range of people. This makes the technology vulnerable and prone to attacks. As everybody can access the data online, many find it an opportunity to destroy or mold the data stored on the server. When the attack is carried out, data security and privacy are compromised. Thus, Cloud Computing is vulnerable and it is not safe to put your data on the internet permanently.

Data Mobility

It is the possibility of sharing data between various cloud services. It helps in retrieving data. However, in cloud computing, there might be some hindrances when it comes to data mobility. Whenever there is a connectivity issue or any other software problems, cloud servers show errors and are not able to work properly. The data uploaded is also not secure as the issue arises.

Technical Issues

Cloud Computing is difficult to manage when a technical problem arises. Technical issues are taken care of by customer support services. They are 24×7 available to support you and correct the problems with cloud computing. But to make these corrections, one has to pay a lot of money. Thus, solving technical issues is quite expensive.

Slow Connectivity

Cloud Computing does not work when the connection is slow. The quality of this technology depends upon the cloud service providers and good connectivity. When the server is down, there will be poor server quality. Thus, to make use of cloud computing to the fullest, it is best to have a good server connection.

So, these are the disadvantages of using Cloud Computing. It is undeniable that Cloud Computing has a few drawbacks on the servers, data, and users.

But that doesn’t mean that one must not use Cloud Computing. This technology has made our lives subsequently easier. Ranging from listing songs to uploading/ editing documents, cloud computing is widely used everywhere.

Here are some of the top uses of cloud computing.

Uses of Cloud Computing

People use Cloud Computing consciously or unconsciously in everyday life. While sending mails, editing documents, watching movies, or even listening to music – we use Cloud Computing. Cloud Computing is just a decade old and today it is making its way into everyone’s life by making it easier. Let’s go through the uses.

  • Cloud Computing technology helps in building, deploying, and scaling applications. It uses different approaches like API communication, DevOps, Kubernetes, etc., for developing cloud-based native applications.
  • Cloud Computing reduces the development cost and time by making use of cloud infrastructures that can be scaled up and down.
  • It helps protect the data and preserve it. Cloud computing is a cost-effective method that saves your data. It transfers the data over the internet so that it can be easily managed and accessed from any location and device.
  • Cloud technology unifies the data across various platforms and analyzes it further. This technology uses cloud services like AI, Machine Learning, etc., to have deep insights into cloud computing.
  • With cloud computing, one can effectively stream audio/ video anywhere, anytime.
  • Cloud Computing uses intelligent models to engage consumers and gain information from the data acquired.
  • Cloud Computing offers the latest software versions and updates to consumers to make their daily tasks simpler.

Cloud Computing can prove to be a great career option. If one ise interested in this field, then it is best to apply for Cloud Architect Certifications. These certifications provide the theoretical and practical knowledge that helps one get high-paid jobs in top companies.

Lastly, do not get confused because of the disadvantages. Every technology has its pros and cons. Thus, if one wishes to become a Cloud Architect/ Engineer, it is best to apply for these certifications today!
