The Coimbatore Institute of Technology (CIT) is a private autonomous institute for engineering situated in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Founded in 1956 by Professor P. R. Ramakrishnan under the aegis of V. Rangaswamy Naidu Educational Trust, the college aims to impart knowledge in science, engineering and technology and promote the holistic development of its students.
CIT attained autonomy in 1987 and is recognised by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA).
CIT offers nine under-graduate academic programs and 12 post graduate academic programs, along with M.S. and Ph.D. research programs. In 1961, the CIT Sandwich Polytechnic College took off offering six engineering diploma programs in different engineering fields. The Mechanical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering diploma courses have been accredited by the NBA.
The institute boasts a dedicated placement cell and eminent recruiters including Marico India, CISCO, Dr. Reddy’s, Apollo Tyres, and Sriram EPC among others, visit the campus each year offering about 800 jobs.
CIT has been consistently ranked among the top 20 engineering colleges in India by various education surveys conducted annually.
CIT is sited on a 25.4 acre campus, with 40,000 sq. m built up space dedicated to academic, administrative, and co-curricular activities. The institute is fully-equippedwith modern equipment of international standards.
