Lareb hashmi

On Friday, an engineering student, identified as Lareb Hashmi, allegedly assaulted a bus conductor, Harikesh, with a cleaver and later boasted about it in a video, claiming it was retribution for the alleged “abuse of a Muslim,” according to police reports on Sunday.

The incident occurred on Friday when Hashmi attacked Harikesh, causing severe injuries that resulted in the bus conductor being hospitalized.

Hashmi was apprehended later on the same day in Chandi village following a gunfire encounter with the police, during which he sustained a leg injury. Assistant Commissioner of Police Ajit Singh Chauhan stated, “Police have secured custody remand of the accused for further questioning.”

The incident gained attention when a video filmed by Hashmi went viral on social media. In the video, Hashmi claimed, “He was abusing a Muslim. Insha Allah, he will not survive,” referring to the bus conductor. He added, “Nobody should think that the government is of Modi and Yogi. Only Mustafa rules our hearts. Allah hu Akbar, Allah hu Akbar.” Hashmi displayed the cleaver used in the attack in the video.

During questioning in the hospital, Hashmi told the police that the bus conductor had verbally insulted him, prompting the attack. After his arrest, Hashmi led the police to a bush where he had hidden the cleaver. The police also recovered a pistol from the location.

According to the police, the accused fired at the police first and was shot in the leg in retaliation. Chauhan stated that based on a complaint filed by Harikesh’s father, Ram Shiromani Vishwakarma, a case under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC has been registered against Hashmi. Bus conductor Harikesh is currently receiving treatment at SRN Hospital and is now out of danger.
