Engineering has always been and will continue to be one of the top career choices in India. There are several competitive exams for securing a seat in the top engineering colleges at the national and state level.
These exams comprise three papers:
BE /B Tech (Paper 1) – Physics, Chemistry and Math
B Arch (Paper 2) – Math and Aptitude Test, Drawing Test
B Planning (Paper 3) – Mathematics, Aptitude Test and Planning-Based Questions
Here’s a list of the engineering entrance exams and the schedule for this year (2021).
JEE Main
Students can write the exam — conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) — for three consecutive years. This year, the JEE Main exam will be conducted four times – February, March, April and May.

Eligibility
- Candidates should have passed class 12 or qualifying the exam in 2019 or 2020.
- Candidates appearing in class 12 or equivalent qualifying exam in 2021 can also apply for JEE Main 2021.

Exam pattern
B.Tech
The Mathematics paper consists of two sections – A and B. While section A comprises of Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs), Section B includes questions whose answers are to be filled in as a numerical value.
The Physics paper has 30 questions carrying 4 marks each for correct answer or the best answer.
The Chemistry paper comprises numerical as well as theoretical questions carrying 30 questions in total.
B.Arch
This exam comprises 20 MCQs as well as 5 questions to be filled with numerical value answers.
B.Plan
20 questions are MCQs and 5 questions have answers to be filled as a numerical value out of 10. There is no negative marking for numerical value.

JEE Advanced:
This exam is conducted once a year by the seven zonal IITs with guidance from the Joint Admission Board (JAB). The exam scores are used for admissions to B.Tech programmes offered by different IITs in India.

- The eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced 2021 has been revised – 75% in Class 12 is not mandatory for admission in IITs.

The exam has two compulsory papers (Physics, Chemistry, Math) with 3 hours for each paper and 4 hours for PwD candidates.

VITEEE
The Vellore Institute of Technology engineering entrance exam is held from June 18 to 26. Candidates can register online by visiting the official website: vit.ac.in. The last date to fill the application form for this year’s exam is yet to be announced.

- Candidates having studied Mathematics/Physics/Chemistry in +2 / Higher Secondary Board are eligible for all the B.Tech. Programmes
- Candidates having studied Biology/Physics/Chemistry in +2/ Higher Secondary Board are eligible for the following Bio stream programmes only.

SRMJEEE
SRM Joint Engineering Entrance Examination or SRMJEEE is conducted by the SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) once in a year for admission to B.Tech programmes offered by the institute at its various campuses – Kattankulathur, Ramapuram, NCR – Ghaziabad, Ramapuram Part – Vadapalani, Amravati, Haryana, and Sikkim.
The exam is likely to be conducted in the first or second week of April 2021.

Eligibility
- Candidates should have passed 10+2 or equivalent exam with minimum 50% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics from any state board within India, CBSE, ISCE, Matriculation, or NIOS.
- International Baccalaureate (IB) with Diploma, or an A-level with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics / Biology / Botany & Zoology / Biotechnology as subjects from any international school will be eligible for admission through SRMJEEE 2021.
- Candidates must be born between July 1, 2000, and July 1, 2005, i.e, they should complete 16 years of age on or before July 31, 2021.

Exam Pattern
Computer-based test (CBT) featuring objective type MCQs with four options from which only one option is correct. Total number of questions is 125 and the total time allotted is two hours and thirty minutes. Candidates will have to answer questions from Physics, Maths, Chemistry, English and Aptitude. While for Biotechnology – Candidates have to appear for Biology instead of Mathematics. One mark will be provided for every correct answer. There is no negative marking.

BITSAT
BITSAT is a computer-based test (CBT) conducted annually for admission to Integrated First degree programmes like BE, Pharma and MSc programmes offered by BITS campuses located at Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad. Candidates can apply at bitsadmission.com

Candidates should have passed Class 12 in 2020 or 2021 from a recognised Central or State Board with a minimum aggregate of 75% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/ Biology subjects. Additionally, a minimum 60% in each of the above-mentioned subjects is required.

A three hours CBT featuring 150 questions divided into four parts:

WBJEE
The WBJEE is a state-level examination conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Engineering & Technology, Architecture and Pharmacy offered by colleges in the state. Eligibility:
- Should have been a permanent resident of West Bengal for 10 consecutive years as on December 31, 2021.
- Parents should be permanent residents of the state with a permanent residential address.
- If the candidates do not have domicile eligibility, they will still be allowed to appear for WBJEE 2021. However, they will be able to apply for a limited amount of seats.
- Candidates should be minimum 17 years old as on December 31, 2021, or should have been born on or before December 31, 2004. No upper age limit.
- Should have passed the 10+2th (or equivalent) examination conducted by a board recognised by Central and State Government with Physics and Mathematics along with any one of the following – Chemistry/Biology/Biotechnology/Computer Science/Computer Application as compulsory subjects in the qualifying examination.
Exam Pattern
The exam will be conducted in offline mode (OMR Based Examination) consisting of two papers – Mathematics (Paper I) and Physics and Chemistry (Paper II). It will have MCQs with 2 hours allotted for each paper .

MHTCET
Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MHT CET) is conducted by the DTE (Directorate of Technical Education), Maharashtra for admissions to first-year Engineering and Technology programmes (BE/BTech) and Pharmacy programmes (BPharma/PharmaD) in the state. MHT CET 2021 exam dates are yet to be announced. Candiates can apply at cetcell.mahacet.org
Eligibility
- Candidates passing SSC and also HSC or Diploma in Engineering or Bachelor of Science Examination from a recognised institution in Maharashtra.
- Candidate who is either domicile of Maharashtra and/or is born in Maharashtra.
- Candidate whose father or mother is domiciled in the state of Maharashtra and posseses a Domicile Certificate.
- Candidates passing SSC and/or HSC examination from a recognised institution located in a disputed Maharashtra Karnataka Border Area and whose Mother tongue is Marathi.
Exam Pattern:
- The questions will be based on syllabus of Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education.
- 20% weightage will be given to the questions from Std. XI syllabus and 80% weightage will be given to the questions from Std. XII syllabus while setting the question paper.
- MHT-CET will be conducted in two groups i.e. PCM (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) and PCB (Physics, Chemistry and Biology).
- The question papers are multiple choice questions (MCQ) and there will be no negative marking.

KEAM
The Kerala Engineering Agricultural Medical Entrance Examinations (KEAM) is conducted by the Commissioner of Entrance Examinations (CEE) for admissions to Engineering, Architecture and Medical- colleges in Kerala state. Candidates can apply on the official website: cee.kerala.gov.in

Eligibility:
- Candidates shall be regarded as Keralite (those domiciled in the state of Kerala) and Non-Keralite (those domiciled in other states outside Kerala).
- Passed Higher Secondary Examination (HSE) Kerala or equivalent examination with Physics and Mathematics as mandatory subjects while Chemistry as optional (to be substituted by Computer Science or Biotechnology or Biology, as the case may be) with at least 45% marks. Candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ SEBC/ PwD categories will be given relaxation of 5% marks
- Candidates should have completed 17 years of age as on December 31, 2021. There is no upper age limit.
Exam Pattern:
The exam will be held offline for 2 hours 30 minutes. It will comprise two papers in objective/MCQ mode:
Paper I – Physics and Chemistry (120 Questions)
Paper II – Mathematics (120 Questions)
4 marks are awarded for correct answer while 1 mark deducted for wrong response
