The CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) is a national-level entrance exam in India conducted for admission to undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) law programs offered by National Law Universities (NLUs) and several other institutions.
It may be recollected that the previous year’s exams were ridden with controversy leading to the involvement of courts. Many undergraduate questions were allegedly flawed or ambiguous, especially in Legal and Logical Reasoning sections. Some were deemed unsolvable or inconsistent with the syllabus. Others claimed that the provisional answer key contained about a dozen mistakes, causing confusion and widespread dissatisfaction.
Eligibility
As per the eligibility criteria, candidates who have passed Class 12 with a minimum of 45% marks (40% for reserved categories) are eligible to apply for the CLAT UG exam. For the CLAT PG exam, applicants must possess an LLB degree with at least 45% marks, while those from SC, ST, and PwD categories need a minimum of 40%.
In the previous year, the application fee was ₹4,000 for General and OBC category candidates, and ₹3,500 for candidates from SC, ST, and BPL categories.
