COVID 19: After Bengaluru school student tests positive, other students to be screened

Coronavirus

A 13-year-old class student of an East Bengaluru school tested positive for COVID 2019 on Tuesday, 11 March 2020. The father of the girl has a travel history to the US and was positive for coronavirus on Monday. The girl and her mother were in close with him too tested positive.

A senior official from the Directorate of Medical Education said, “Until March 7, the 13-year-old girl had attended classes. So we need to check where the child has been, who she interacted with, till her tests came positive. We are investigating this.”

Besides, about 1700 students from the school and 360 staff members will be screened for the virus. The official further added, “As the child and her mother were in close contact with the father, they contracted the virus. Now we have started reverse screening and all the students, staff and their families will also be screened. If any of the students or staff have developed symptoms they will be quarantined and samples will be sent to labs for further investigation.”

The school has pre-primary to class 12 and everyone has been asked to cooperate with the Department of Health and Family Welfare officials. This includes students, teaching and non-teaching staff, drivers, office boys and families.
