COVID 19 updates: Schools & colleges in Bihar, Uttarakhand, UP closed

After Bangalore state government announced that all schools up to class 6 will be closed due to coronavirus pandemic, the Bihar government closes all schools, colleges, and coaching institutes till March 31. The Bihar givernment said, “Students of government schools will get the money for mid-day meal in their bank accounts till their schools are closed.”

On a similar note, the Uttarakhand Chief Minister, Trivendra Singh Rawat told ANI, “All schools have been closed until March 31. Do not fear as no case of coronavirus has been reported here.”

Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University has postponed all lectures, class presentations and examinations up till March 31. All events, such as seminars, conferences and workshops on the campus during this period have also been postponed.

In the wake of 11 confirmed COVID 19 cases in Uttar Pradesh, state CM Yogi Adityanath said, “All schools, colleges, technical and vocational education institutes in Uttar Pradesh will remain closed till March 22. We will review the situation on March 22 and will take a decision whether to extend it or not.” 

He further added, “The situation in Uttar Pradesh is under control. Though we have not declared coronavirus outbreak to be an epidemic yet, but certain special powers under the Epidemic Act have been given to local authorities to handle the situation.”

As of March 13, as many as 75 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in India. Three of them have been cured and discharged from hospital while one coronavirus-related death has been reported in Karnataka.
