The Common University Entrance Test (CUET)-UG, originally scheduled to take place between May 15 and May 31, 2024, remains unaffected by the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, as confirmed by UGC Chairman Jagadesh Kumar. He emphasized that the exam’s date sheet will be finalized and released after the completion of the registration process.

Earlier this month, the UGC had raised concerns regarding the possibility of altering the exam dates due to the Lok Sabha polls schedule. The Election Commission subsequently announced the seven-phase polling schedule, which is set to commence on April 19, with the vote counting scheduled for June 4.

Despite the overlap of two CUET-UG exam dates with the Lok Sabha election dates on May 20 and 25, the National Testing Agency (NTA) will uphold the previously announced schedule. Following the closure of the application window on March 26, NTA will take into account the registration data and the election dates to finalize the CUET-UG date sheet.

It’s noteworthy that the CUET-UG application deadline is March 26, and it was introduced in 2022 to streamline the university admissions process on a national level. This year’s examination introduces a hybrid format, combining both Computer Based Testing and pen-and-paper modes for different subjects. Subjects witnessing significant registration volumes will utilize the pen-and-paper format with optical mark recognition (OMR), while others will continue with computer-based testing.

In the previous cycle, CUET-UG witnessed an impressive registration count of approximately 14.9 lakh candidates, underscoring its pivotal role in the landscape of higher education.
