Deccan Education Society sets up new university

DES Pune University

Deccan Education Society, commonly known as DES and headquartered in Pune announced its latest educational endeavor, the Deccan Education Society Pune University (DESPU). This institution will comprise five distinct schools focusing on Commerce and Management, Science and Mathematics, Engineering and Technology, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Design and Arts, offering a total of 21 programs.

Founded in 1884, the Deccan Education Society has a rich legacy with 18 colleges and 21 schools across India, serving over 50,000 students and employing over 2,000 staff members. DESPU represents the organization’s most significant initiative to date and aligns with the principles of the National Education Policy 2020.

According to the organisation’s press release DESPU aims to provide a world-class education with a strong emphasis on accessibility and quality. It will offer foundation and specialization courses, as well as Experiential Learning Courses, fostering an inclusive educational ecosystem.

Prof. Prasad D Khandekar, the Founding Vice Chancellor of DESPU, emphasized the need for globally competitive education with a strong value system. The university’s vision includes establishing research institutes focusing on Indian Knowledge Systems, Cyber-Physical Systems, and Life Sciences, supported by accomplished researchers and state-of-the-art infrastructure.

The press release further mentioned that DESPU will follow the guidelines of the National Education Policy 2020, where students can earn an honours degree combined with research over a four-year program. The university is committed to academic excellence and producing erudite leaders for the future.
