Bajrang Dal’s convener Vikas Verma filed a complaint against the authorities of the Welham Boys’ School, a well-known school in Dehradun at the Dalanwala police station on Thursday evening for ‘promoting enmity between groups’, reported The Times of India. The principal, vice-principal and the manager of the residential school have been booked under Section 505 (2) of the Indian Penal Code which pertains to statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred or ill-will between classes. The FIR was lodged for ‘inviting halal meat suppliers for the mess.’

The complained filed by Verma stated that the school was serving halal meat even though students of all religions studied there. Officer Mahavir Singh, who is in charge of the case explained that 505 (2) of the Indian Penal Code which pertains to statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred or ill-will between classes is cognizable, non-bailable and could even punish with imprisonment, fine or both. Singh further added that there were some discrepancies in the school’s statements and they will investigate the matter.

Bajrang Dal had earlier in the week barged into the school premises and protested against the tender for halal meat which was published in newspaper.

Parents, however, are not worried about the same and have termed it as “non-issue”. One of the parents said that we are not really bothered what meat is served to our wards. “We have sent our children to study and that should remain the focus,” added the parent. Another parent mentioned, “We do consume frozen foods and there is nothing mentioned on the packets hence there should be an issue regarding this. But this might be an issue with other parents as the matter is sensitive.”
