Delhi: Education minister Atishi cancels transfer of 5000 teachers

Delhi Education Minister Atishi announced on Thursday that she has instructed Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar to immediately revoke the transfer orders for 5,000 teachers issued without her approval.

A circular titled ‘Online requests for transfer of teaching staff of the Directorate of Education’ mandated that all teachers who have served more than 10 years in one school must apply for a transfer. Failure to do so would result in their compulsory transfer by the Directorate of Education (DoE), as per the circular issued on June 11.

The minister had previously ordered on July 1 that no teacher should be transferred solely based on their tenure of over 10 years in a particular school.

In a press conference, Atishi revealed that she had discovered corruption in the process.

“Despite my orders, a transfer order was issued on July 2, affecting nearly 5,000 teachers. I have instructed the chief secretary to cancel this order and to investigate any corruption or malpractice involved,” she stated.
