Delhi Private Schools crack down on excessive AI use

February 13, 2025

Concerned about AI’s impact on creativity and independent thinking, several private schools in Delhi are taking strict measures to curb its misuse in academics. Schools are now deploying software to detect AI-generated assignments and implementing strict penalties for violations.

Educators argue that while AI can enhance learning, over-reliance may stifle originality. Sudha Acharya, principal of ITL International School, warned against AI misuse, stating that students caught using AI for internal assessments receive zero marks.”AI can help students develop skills, but excessive dependence will hinder creativity,” she said.

Similarly, Tagore International School principal Mallika Preman emphasized responsible AI integration in learning.“We don’t encourage full reliance on AI. Instead, we guide students on using it to enhance understanding and creativity,” she explained.

At The Sovereign School in Rohini, teachers are trained to identify AI-generated work. Chairman RN Jindal stated that students may be required to redo assignments if found relying on AI.

MS Rawat, chairperson of the Delhi Private Teachers’ Association, stressed the need for AI literacy for both students and educators.“AI is shaping the future. Schools must ensure students understand its benefits and risks,” he said.

As India moves towards AI-driven innovation, the government has approved the IndiaAI Mission with an outlay of ₹10,372 crore. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking at the AI Action Summit in Paris, urged global leaders to invest in India’s AI potential, highlighting the nation’s rapid progress in the field.
