The Delhi Public School (DPS), Ahmedabad is a co-educational day school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). It offers education from pre-primary to senior secondary classes and is managed by the Calorx Foundation, a non-profit organization. Promoted in 1996 by the well-reputed Delhi Public School Society, the school started with 450 students and 26 teachers. Today, the school has achieved a strength of about 4000 students and 200 teachers. The school spokesperson says, “DPS Ahmedabad is committed to providing education that helps to develop children into balanced personalities, with sound values of love, kindness, devotion and service before self”.
The 13-acre school campus comprises the primary, middle, secondary and senior secondary sections. Five separate buildings adorn the school campus and include a spacious assembly area and an amphitheatre. Well-stocked libraries and computer laboratories are present in every section. The sports area of the school is called Kridangan and encompasses a hockey and football ground, a basketball and volleyball court, a rifle shooting range, a skating arena and an artificial climbing wall. The pre-primary division of the school, “Satellite” has been built considering the safety of young children and has enclosed activity areas and lawns. The school boasts of up-to-date classrooms, smart boards, and essential multimedia needed for audio visual learnings.
Schooling at primary level (classes I-V) employs a curriculum which makes use of recreational resources and activity driven approaches like illustration of concepts through projects, multimedia, field trips, etc. to strengthen students’ knowledge base. Children are initiated into reading, developing scientific temper, developing reasoning ability, acquiring language skills through active speaking-listening programmes, nurturing creative talent and introducing digital skills which engage students to become inquirers and independent learners.
The primary school teaching-learning pattern focuses on linguistic, logical-mathematical, spatial, bodily-kinaesthetic, musical, interpersonal and naturalistic intelligence.
At senior school (classes VI-X), the role of educators in grade VI-X is more of a facilitator and collaborator by imparting education through stimulating tasks, projects, assignments, training and hands on experience. The application form for admission is available online (can also be collected from the admission office) on the basis of vacancy available in respective classes. The vacancy status is available from the admission office or under the online admission link on the school website. The application form has to be submitted along with required documents. On the successful submission of the form, a unique registration key (application ID) will be generated and communicated to parents through email and SMS. Parents will be informed through email and SMS about the date and time to visit the school campus for interaction and verification of original documents. Parents are required to complete the enrolment formalities by remitting the “amount payable at the time of admission”. The amount payable at time of admission confirmation has to be deposited in three working days through the online payment gateway.
