Delhi Public School (DPS), Newtown, Kolkata is a coeducational day school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi. The school was established under the aegis of the DPS society on April 25, 2005.
The school’s mission is to train minds which will carry forward the country’s legacy of educational excellence by creating global citizens and to identify the inherent potential of each child and give them a headstart in life.
The school is spread over a 12-acre plush campus and hosts a two floored air conditioned senior library and research centre, junior library, labs for computers, environmental science, biology, chemistry, physics, biotechnology and home science, AV room, reading park and seminar room, dance room, music room, art and sculpture studio, air-conditioned auditorium, amphitheatre and yoga/meditation park.
The sports infrastructure includes self defence and martial arts room, indoor games room, playground, field for outdoor sports, international standard swimming pool, tennis court, basketball court, athletic race track, skating rink, gymnasium, ball pool and splash pool for toddlers.
Other facilities include cafeteria, playrooms, medical infirmary, ramps for physically challenged students and a fleet of buses.
From pre primary to class I, children are encouraged to explore their latent talents and participate in intersocial activities. From classes II to V, children are trained to streamline their thoughts, express their ideas creatively while keeping the rationale side intact, become pro-active and take part in school activities, learn to regard peer opinion and develop strong ideas of their own that will stand in good stead in the future.
For classes VI to X, a more structured and regulated education process is followed, children are prepared to face the first academic challenge i.e. the board examinations, teaching techniques are streamlined and focus is on deepening of insights. The school also conducts extra classes to cater to students’ with specific and special needs.
Students of class XI and XII have a team of expert teachers who assist them in preparing for entry to conventional as well as new age careers.
Extracurricular activities include debates, dance, yoga and meditation, music, dramatics, art and sculpture. Sports activities include self defense and martial art, cricket, skating, tennis, football, basketball and indoor games include chess and table tennis.
