Delhi: Schools to remain closed till October 31

The Delhi government has asked all the schools in the state to remain closed till October 31, 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. While talking to the media, a Delhi govt official said, “During this COVID-19 crisis, it would not be appropriate to take any risk regarding children’s health. Therefore, the Delhi government has decided to continue the closure of schools till 31 October. During this period, online education will continue in all schools.”

An official at the Deputy Chief Minister’s office told PTI that, “The Directorate of Education (DoE) has been directed to extend the ongoing closure of schools till Oct 31. Formal orders to this effect will be issued by DoE tomorrow.”

Earlier, the Delhi government’s Directorate of Education stated that schools in the state will continue to remain closed for all classes till October 5, 2020. 

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 issued new guidelines for reopening of schools, colleges and educational institutions after October 15.  The MHA stated, “For re-opening of schools and coaching institutions, State/ UT Governments have been given the flexibility to take a decision after 15th October 2020, in a graded manner. The decision shall be taken in consultation with the respective school/ institution management, based on their assessment of the situation.”
