Child abuse

In northwest Delhi’s Shahbad Dairy area, two boys attending a government school reportedly faced alleged sexual assault from their fellow classmates, as reported by the police on Monday.

A committee has been established by the Delhi government to investigate the incident.

According to the police, the incident supposedly occurred during an April summer camp organized by the school. Two separate complaints were filed by the boys, aged 12 and 13, asserting that they were sexually assaulted by a group of approximately five to six classmates. In response, two cases have been registered related to this incident.

All the individuals involved are minors and have appeared before a child welfare committee. The police informed that further inquiry is ongoing.

Upon learning of the situation, Swati Maliwal, Chief of the Delhi Commission For Women (DCW), issued notices to both the police and the school administration, demanding action be taken in response.

At the same time, opposition leaders from the BJP called for the resignation of Education Minister Atishi, claiming that the condition of government schools under the AAP administration in the national capital has declined.

The 13-year-old victim, an eighth-grade student, reported that during the April summer camp, his peers forcefully took him to a nearby park and subjected him to sexual assault. The assailants warned him against revealing the incident. Frightened, he refrained from sharing the ordeal initially. However, when he encountered subsequent harassment from these boys, he confided in his teachers, who instructed him not to disclose it further.

Eventually, the victim informed his parents, prompting them to contact the police, leading to a case being registered.

The Delhi government responded with a statement expressing sorrow over the alleged incident happening at the summer camp. They established an investigative committee to look into the matter and affirmed their commitment to swift and stringent action against any guilty parties.

The Delhi Commission for Women received information about the assault of two minor boys within a government school in Delhi. The DCW reported that one 13-year-old student was allegedly sexually assaulted by fellow students during the summer camp. He revealed that the incident occurred in a nearby park and lasted for seven days. The accused students also threatened him to remain silent. He later disclosed the ordeal to two teachers, who advised him against reporting it.

Additionally, a 12-year-old boy claimed that he was also sexually assaulted by the same group of students during the summer camp, and again at a later date in the school toilet.

The DCW discovered that the parents learned of the incident approximately six days prior. Upon visiting the school, the principal allegedly advised them to keep the matter quiet.

The BJP criticized the AAP government, asserting that despite claims of providing quality education, the conditions in government schools have worsened under their leadership. They demanded accountability from the school management committee and questioned why interventions were lacking in such serious matters.
