The Dental Commission Act aims to enhance practicality and affordability in dental education while promoting transparency, according to Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya. During the inauguration of the National Dental Commission (NDC) headquarters and the virtual foundation stone laying for nursing colleges, Mandaviya emphasized the transformative impact of the dental commission on education and administration. He highlighted efforts to make dental education more practical, affordable, and transparent through the Dental Commission Act, simultaneously ensuring affordable and quality treatment for patients.
Mandaviya presided over an MoU signing between the Dental Council of India and Quality Council of India for assessing and rating undergraduate dental colleges. Additionally, he launched the National Dental Register under the National Health Digital Mission, aiming to provide transparent information about dentists’ identity and qualifications. The National Dental Register, a component of ‘One Nation One Register,’ will assign a Unique Identification (DCI-ID) to dentists practicing in India after verification from state dental councils, facilitating citizens in identifying verified dentists.
Highlighting the commitment to bolster the nursing workforce and address healthcare disparities, Mandaviya mentioned the government’s plan to establish 157 new nursing colleges co-located with existing medical colleges. To capitalize on the growing demand for trained Indian nurses internationally, foreign language courses have been integrated into medical education institutes, offering students an added advantage for opportunities abroad.
