DMK government allocated ₹1,200 crore under RTE to schools: Udhayanidhi Stalin

August 5, 2024

Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin recently emphasized the DMK government’s commitment to education, announcing the release of ₹1,200 crore under the Right to Education (RTE) Act. Tamil Nadu leads in implementing the RTE, which mandates a 25% reservation for underprivileged students. Addressing past delays in payments to private schools, Stalin highlighted that the current government swiftly issued orders to release funds.

In his speech at a school education department function, Stalin urged teachers not to repurpose periods allocated for physical education for subjects like math and science. He stressed the importance of physical activities for children’s overall development, noting that sports contribute to both physical health and academic success. He mentioned Tamil Nadu’s strong performance in the Khelo India Youth Games, where the state finished second.

Stalin also spoke about the historical emphasis on education within the Dravidian movement, recalling reformist leader Periyar EV Ramasamy’s excitement at seeing girl children attend school. He expressed a shared joy within the movement when witnessing children receive an education. Outlining Chief Minister MK Stalin’s initiatives, he highlighted goals for all students to pursue higher education and professional courses.

The government is actively encouraging both studies and sports, with initiatives such as the Kalaignar Centenary Library and the TN Champions Foundation, which has provided ₹10 crore in incentives for sports this year alone. The event also saw the inauguration of the ‘CM Trophy Games 2024’ online registration and the launch of 100 new and refurbished state-run buses.

The function at Nehru Stadium honored students who excelled in sports at international, national, and state levels, and recognized private schools with a 100% pass rate in Class 10 and 12 public examinations. This celebration of academic and sporting achievements underscores the government’s comprehensive approach to education and youth development.
