Design an interesting and attractive mobile rack using odds and ends in your Art and Crafts box.
You need:
• A coat hanger
• String or twine
• Assorted objects
How to make it:
• Paint the coat hanger with diluted fevicol and sprinkle glitter on it. Hang it up to dry.
• Find coloured twine or string with colorful beads or painted pasta of different shapes.
• Choose objects thematically to hang on your mobile rack. You could also make a rack to match your room’s colours and decor.
• You can suspend all kinds of objects from the mobile rack to make a groovy party decoration!
• Use your creativity to think of the most attractive way to hang the objects.
• Do you want to suspend the collectibles in different lengths alternating the short and long ones? Or would it be better to hang them all in a row? Or even one below the other?
• With this picture in mind, sort through your collected objects. You may need an adult’s help to bore tiny holes in your knickknacks like shells.
• Thread the twine through the apertures or tie it around the middle of the objects.
• Now with one end secured, tie the other end to the coat hanger at the required height. Suspend all the objects and check if it is balanced without too much weight on one side.
• Now your mobile rack is all set to hang in your room, from a window grill or your balcony for all to admire!
Day for others
A group of Ohio Stare University students spent their summer holidays trotting around the globe studying architecture in Europe, agriculture in China, volunteering medical care in Mexico and even learning Arabic in Yemen. Says Greg Delaney, a team member: “This trip was an unbelievable opportunity to experience firsthand what we were learning back in Ohio. Every day was an adventure.”
The trip was very soul-satisfying for the students. In many countries, they stopped to volunteer useful services. Recalls a student of dentistry in the team: “We treated everything from routine cavities to extractions and other dental problems in Mexico. For a lot of them, it was the first time they’d seen a dentist!”
New teams gear up every year with a mixture of students from all faculties to explore various countries. They acquire hands-on experience of working with the sick and the needy, sorting out housing and legal issues with governments and even cooking with locals!
