DPS Noida principal, supervisor booked for staff murder

DPS Noida murder

Four months following the death of 36-year-old housekeeping staff, Basanti Devi working with Delhi Public School (DPS), Noida Sector 30, the police have lodged an FIR against the school’s principal, supervisor and contractor on charges of murder.

Devi was found hanging from a neem tree on August 15 following Independence Day celebrations at the school.

Devi’s husband Rakesh approached Surajpur court stating that despite multiple complaints, FIR was not lodged by the police. He alleged that on August 31, 2019, he submitted a complaint to the Sector 20 police but after they took no action, he took the matter to the Gautam Budh Nagar SSP.

While earlier the police said that it is a case of “possible suicide”, Devi’s family members suspected foul play. Rakesh said his wife had told him that the school’s supervisor Prem Kumar harassed her often and made objectionable remarks at her. She complained the same to the school contractor, Girish Jain, who refused to listen to her as well as to the principal, Kamini Bhasin, who threatened to fire her.

Meanwhile, the principal alleged that Devi was hired two months before the incident. Other staff members at the school said that she would remain upset and was often beaten up.

All three members of DPS have been lodged under IPC Section 302 (murder) on direction of the court.
