Dr. Joseph Emmanuel has been appointed as the Chief Executive and Secretary of Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE). CISCE is the country’s only private national board with over 2,800 of India’s top ranked private schools including The Doon School, Dehradun, The Shri Ram School, Delhi and Dhirubhai Ambani International School, Mumbai affiliated with it.
In an official notification, the ICSE board announced that he will take charge from May 1, 2024.
He will play a crucial role in overseeing the conduct of exams, ensuring standards set by the council are met by affiliated schools, curriculum and other aspects involving the board. Previously, Dr. Joseph Emmanuel served as the Director (Academics) at the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
A graduate of Mahatma Gandhi University with an MCom and PhD, he also served as the Executive officer at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. He also held the posts of Deputy secretary, joint secretary and officer on special duty (NEET), secretary and director, CBSE.
Dr Emmanuel, who has over three decades of experience in the field of education has also been in the forefront of implementation of the National Education Policy 2020. He has addressed various workshops for teachers on aspects such as shift to competency-focused teaching and learning, transforming assessments and tracking student progress.
