In a landmark initiative to improve access to healthcare education, Dr. Azad Moopen, Founder and Chairman of Aster DM Healthcare, has launched the Dr. Moopen’s Legacy Scholarship & Fellowships Programme. The scholarship will offer 100% tuition fee waivers to 25 eligible students annually pursuing MBBS, BSc Nursing, and B.Pharm courses at Dr. Moopen’s educational institutions in Wayanad, Kerala.
This marks the first time a private medical college in Kerala is offering full tuition scholarships for MBBS students. Each year, five MBBS aspirants, ten BSc Nursing candidates, and ten B.Pharm students will be selected. The MBBS awards will be based solely on merit, particularly NEET rankings, while the Nursing and B.Pharm scholarships will consider both merit and financial need.
The programme will support 125 students over five years, with a financial outlay of ₹3 crore per year by Dr. Moopen’s Education and Research Foundation.
“Education is the foundation of a stronger and more inclusive society,” said Dr. Moopen. “No capable student should have to abandon their dreams due to economic constraints, especially in healthcare. This programme is a commitment to creating opportunities that can transform lives and communities.”
Dr. Moopen’s Medical College, established in 2012, was the first in Kerala to be located in a hilly and tribal region. The new scholarship initiative reinforces the college’s mission to make quality medical education accessible to underserved communities and inspire tribal and rural youth to join the healthcare workforce.
Applications open from 28 July 2025. More details and eligibility criteria are available at: www.dmscholarship.in.
