A teacher of Balia Primary School under the Lembo Panchayat in Sukinda area of Odisha’s Jajpur district came to teach in a drunken state on Wednesday. He made the students kneel down outside the school premises for alleged indiscipline. He was suspended on Thursday.

The teacher, Makarand Mahant, was dismissed after a video became viral on social media which showed him in a drunken state during duty. He was so drunk that he could not even park his motorbike outside the school and through it on the road. He could also be seen happily posing for selfies.

The parents of the students told ANI, “He used to come to school in an inebriated state. He did not give sufficient midday meals to students. We have complained about him on several occasions but the administration did not pay heed to us.”

On Thursday, Block Education Officer of Sukinda visited the primary school to discuss the issue with parents and concerned teachers. He was suspended thereafter.
