Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan led the ‘Swacchta Hi Seva – Shramdaan’ initiative on Sunday at the Patel Chest Institute area in the national capital.
Students, teachers from the University of Delhi, and others joined him in this ‘Ek Tareekh, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath’ initiative, which was organized nationwide as part of the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ Campaign, commemorating the ninth anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Mission.
The initiative, taking place for one hour on the eve of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary, has become the world’s largest people-led movement. Pradhan expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his dedication to building a garbage-free Swachha Bharat, emphasizing the commitment to making academic institutions garbage-free.
People from various backgrounds participated in this hour-long “shramdaan” in response to the prime minister’s call for a nationwide cleanliness drive, with over 9.20 lakh sites adopted for this mega initiative across the country, as reported by the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry.
In a recent “Mann Ki Baat” episode, Modi urged all citizens to engage in “one hour of shramdaan for swachhata” on October 1, marking a “Swachhanjali” to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary.
