Duolingo English Test Introduces a new Interactive Listening question type

Duilingo English Test

Each year, DET makes certain updates that prioritises offering a faster, more innovative test, at a much more affordable price point—making it possible for more students across the world to certify their English (spoken and written) and pursue their academic aspirations. As the test continues to evolve, DET remains committed to ensuring it is accessible to all students, regardless of their location or financial circumstances.

A new Interactive Listening question type

Starting May 1, 2023, test takers will participate in simulated conversations with AI characters—the latest breakthrough in English testing from Duolingo. These conversations measure the proficiency skills that will be used at a university—simulating a student-to-student interaction as well as a student-and-professor interaction, setting up students for success.

Interactive Listening provides new, innovative ways to measure proficiency skills beyond just the academic settings. You may have already seen this question type on the practice test! Interactive Listening is a new format of multi-step question types that will contribute to the overall score as well as all four subscores. In addition to this change, the Speaking Sample will be scored and the Listen and Select questions will be removed. This will help equip test takers for future interactions in real life in settings that they may encounter in their journey internationally.

If you want to experience the Duolingo English Test without these changes, take the certified test before May 1st. Watch an overview here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AALAtaSQUkc
