The Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) has formally submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, urging him to construct a dedicated hostel facility for students from Uttar Pradesh who are studying in various institutes in the national capital.
DUSU joint secretary Sachin Baisla announced that the chief minister has assured them that work will commence in this direction. Baisla met Adityanath on Monday to request the establishment of a hostel with 1,000 beds.
Baisla highlighted the significant challenges faced by students from Uttar Pradesh in finding suitable accommodation in Delhi. Many students, especially those from economically weaker backgrounds and rural areas, struggle to afford a safe and healthy living space. This lack of appropriate housing not only impacts their academic performance but also jeopardizes their safety and well-being.
In the submitted memorandum, Baisla wrote, “Considering these challenges, I urge you to consider establishing a hostel specifically for students from Uttar Pradesh in Delhi. Such a hostel, with accommodation for around 1,000 students, would serve as a boon for those who are currently facing difficulty in finding affordable and secure housing.”
He further elaborated on the importance of this initiative, stating that a dedicated hostel would alleviate the financial and logistical burdens on UP students, allowing them to focus more on their studies and personal development without the constant worry of finding safe accommodation.
Additionally, Uttar Pradesh Transport Minister G Dayashankar Singh was present during the meeting, further emphasizing the importance and urgency of the matter. This meeting underscored the collective effort to ensure that students from Uttar Pradesh receive the necessary support to thrive in their academic endeavors in Delhi.
