Pooja Rai, Managing Director, Delhi World Public School, Ajmer
Best were the days when children enjoyed playing in the park, chuckling with joy, their faces radiating with energy. Nowadays, technology is subjugating the fun time of our kids. Smartphones and PlayStations have become more than gadgets, making them inactive. They have a negative impact on their health besides harming their academic performance and their capability to think and create. In such a milieu, physical activity and sports can offer holistic development to students. De facto, based on our philosophy, we at DWPS believe that all students should participate in sports activities.
Situated in the lap of nature, Delhi World Public School, Ajmer is spread over a 16 acre eco-friendly campus established under the auspices of Delhi World Foundation, which presently manages 96 schools across the globe. Having commenced its historic journey in 2018, DWPS Ajmer is well equipped to provide quality education to 1800 plus happy children.
Delhi World Public School, Ajmer is an avant-garde institution that offers an internationally benchmarked curriculum. It stands tall with an imposing façade, lush green spaces for games and sports and an indoor sports arena. An architectural marvel, it is a prelude to academic excellence combined with scholastic and co-scholastic achievements.
We provide world-class facilities to our students to indulge in a wide range of sports activities and cater to the diverse interests of our students with a choice of 18 games and sports including Horse Riding, MS Dhoni Cricket Academy, Football, Swimming, Tennis, Gymnastics, Archery to name a few.
Sports education in school is imperative for the overall development of a child. We, at DWPS Ajmer have embraced it as an instrument to make students active and healthy individuals. From the first year of its inception, the school has engaged students in various games and sports. This exposure is given to all the students from the foundation years since it has been made an integral part of the school curriculum.
Regular sports also teaches students various life skills and facilitates them to learn how to interact with society or feel self-assured while expressing themselves. While engaging in sports, they get the opportunity to improve their reactions to a situation by interpreting and examining the facts. Some basic skills that students learn when playing sports include:
- Self-Esteem
- Discipline
- Team Work
- Confidence
- Social Skills
- Strong Memory
Though it is one of the most controversial topics parents debate when discussing sports education in school, science has proved that physical activities play an indispensable role in developing the human brain. Also, sports reduces stress with the release of happy hormones – dopamine. Furthermore, it improves creativity and attention span among students, which helps their academic performance.
Also, modern lifestyle has made our kids physically inactive. Unfortunately, the sluggish lifestyle they are so used to can lead to health problems such as:
- Obesity
- Increased risk of diabetes
- Non-communicable diseases
- Depression
- Weakened Immunity
- Stress and more
By engaging in sports, students can live a healthy lifestyle that promotes overall health and controls body weight.
Many people still do not give sports education enough credit. However, we, at DWPS Ajmer apprehend its potential. It encourages our students to make the most out of available opportunities. As a result, our students participate in numerous national and international tournaments.
Sports enhances students’ quality of life by offering them more significant opportunities to attain success in life.
Thomas Jefferson once said, “Exercise and recreation are as necessary as reading. I will rather say more necessary, because health is worth more than learning.”
