A video showing employees literally locked inside their office during working hours has invoked social media outlash against a Noida-based EdTech firm.
Coding Ninjas, a code learning platform that claims to have an 80,000 plus alumni working in 95/108 Unicorns in India, has been at the receiving end of wrath after the video went viral.
The video, shared by a LinkedIn user Himanshu Atal, Co-founder at Unique Imprints shows a guard at the office locking the door of the office with a chain and padlock. When an explanation was sought by the man behind the camera, the guard confessed that this is the direction he received to ensure no employee steps out of office without permission from the management.
Social media users called out the company for its toxic work culture and questioned what would happen in case of an emergency. Some also sought stringent action against those who propagated the idea.
“You should’ve fired that manager. I’ve decided not to watch your ad in future. Managers like this do such things to boost their ego. Their individual contribution to their project is negative. This is an #OpenSecret in the #IndianITindustry,” tweeted one of the users.
Meanwhile, calling it an “isolated incident”, Coding Ninjas said in a statement, “We want to clarify that the incident that recently occurred in one of our offices was due to a regrettable action by an employee. It was immediately rectified within minutes, and the employee acknowledged his mistake and apologised for the inconvenience caused.
“This was an anomaly at Coding Ninjas and against the core values we stand for as an organisation. We want to assure everyone that this action was not intentional.”
