Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan emphasized on Tuesday that education infrastructure is a multi-dimensional concept that extends beyond merely constructing brick-and-mortar facilities. He made these remarks during the inauguration of a national workshop on higher and technical education, which was attended by secretaries from various states and Union territories (UTs).
Pradhan highlighted the necessity for India to transition into a producing economy by leveraging the opportunities presented by Industry 4.0. He called for the development of education infrastructure that meets and exceeds global standards. To achieve this, he outlined several key focus areas for academic leaders and administrators, including:
1. Strengthening Public Universities: Pradhan advocated for innovative funding methods to enhance the capabilities of public universities.
2. Curriculum Alignment: He urged the establishment of think tanks that would tailor curricula to align with industry demands as well as the needs of different states and UTs.
3. Multidisciplinary Research: The minister called for a multidisciplinary approach to research and innovation to address and solve global challenges effectively.
Additionally, Pradhan proposed promoting academic leadership development programs across states and UTs, emphasizing the revival of vibrant campus life through engagement in sports, debate, drama, and the performing arts, as recognized by the National Education Policy (NEP).
He also stressed the importance of teaching in Indian languages and underlined the collective responsibility to enhance India’s global standing in education.
A senior Ministry of Education official explained that the workshop aims to disseminate various approaches and methodologies for implementing NEP 2020. It will facilitate knowledge exchange and create a common platform for stakeholders to collaborate effectively. Over the two days, the workshop will feature 14 technical sessions addressing themes like technology in education, collaboration, digital governance, capacity building, and financing higher education, led by eminent panelists.
