Education Ministry mandates yearly textbook reviews by NCERT

April 29, 2024

According to sources, the Ministry of Education (MoE) has instructed the NCERT to review and update its textbooks annually. However, there is currently no official mandate regarding the frequency of these updates.

“In today’s rapidly changing world, it’s crucial for textbooks to stay current. The NCERT has been tasked with conducting yearly reviews and ensuring updates are completed before the start of each new academic session,” a source stated.

At present, the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is in the process of developing textbooks based on the New Curriculum Framework (NCF) introduced last year.

“The textbooks aligned with the new curriculum are expected to be available for all classes by 2026,” the source added.

This year, the NCERT has introduced new textbooks for classes 3 and 6.
