Business Initiative to Business Imperative: Future Role of Business Analytics

Business Analytics is the practice of using data to drive business strategy and performance. It is undergoing massive, disruptive changes that will radically transform the way the industry and customers think about analytics. The exponential growth in data is a key driver of this change. Adding up to the massive increase in disposable data, the mainstream adoption of cloud computing across the enterprise continues to put pressure on the capabilities of businesses to incorporate all relevant data from multiple data sources to enable users to make more timely, comprehensive, insightful business decisions. All this adds up to Business Analytics demand by companies for new tools and techniques to quickly and easily collect all types of data, and to store, manage, integrate, manipulate, aggregate, analyse all that data into useful information that positively impact their businesses.

Busting the ‘superhuman’ myth: It is okay not to know everything

I so vividly remember walking in to teach my ninth Standard English class and one of the students asked me the spelling of a word I did not know. I was so embarrassed because as a teacher I thought I was supposed to know all the answers. I had joined the profession as a thanksgiving to a teacher who had changed my life and loved every bit of it till that one afternoon. I fumbled a bit, and than basically admitted to the class I did not know the spelling to a hushed giggling sound from the back where this child sat. Over the years, I have thought of that particular afternoon and come to realise that as a teacher we are made to believe that we are super human beings with vast storage of knowledge and elevate ourselves to that position by buying into that myth. But it is just not true. We are humans first and teachers later. We have limitations like everyone else. Not that we should not try to overcome them but sometimes the odds are stacked up against us? How am I or anyone else supposed to know how to spell all 1,025,109.8 words in the English language?"

Parenting with Values

I think as parents and caregivers our wish for our child is that they become the best version of themselves. It comes from a space where we acknowledge that it is from us that their life lessons will come from. We are the first teachers and role models of our children. We are the ones they look up to as they build their personalities and character. But we have not had any training modules or special education to train our children. We need to become aware of the mammoth task in front of us and impart to our children the tools and skills that are eternal and will stand the test of any situation and circumstance. And in doing so, the most valuable tool that we may have on our hands is training our children with values. The five values of Truth, Love, Non-Violence, Peace and Right conduct can shape and mold the character of our children and help them navigate their life with the right principles.
