Promoted in June 1997, Eklavya School, Ahmedabad is an English medium, co-educational day school offering nursery to grade XII education, affiliated with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE).
In keeping with its philosophy that “every child has different capabilities and that each one is born with unique talents”, Eklavya School refrains from “testing” very young children and aims towards the holistic development of each student, laying equal emphasis on extracurricular activities and fine arts along with academics.
Says a school spokesperson, “Working on an interesting and progressive curriculum, Eklavya School intends to instil ‘a sense of purpose’ among students and hopes to make the overall learning experience a more enjoyable one.”
The Eklavya School campus has state-of-the-art facilities; these include libraries, a science park and laboratories.
The junior school library at Eklavya school has a small lawn of its own for pleasant outdoor reading. There are over 6,100 books, comics, encyclopaedias, dictionaries, picture books etc. as well as over 100 audiocassettes and 50 videocassettes. The middle school and junior school library is a well-equipped reference centre that provides students and teachers access to almost any information they may require. The library has a network with other libraries in Ahmedabad and elsewhere, so that the students can access material from all libraries all over.
The campus has a science park with various interactive play-cum-scientific models surrounding the Eklavya campus. The games provide an excellent opportunity for students to learn while having fun. Anyone can learn science phenomena without guidance through these play models and exhibits.
The school also has a fleet of buses to transport children from the selected stops to the school and back. It is compulsory for students to use school transportation.
The School has well-equipped labs to facilitate the process of learning by discovery. The junior school science lab provides an opportunity for children to begin to explore day-to-day phenomena in a scientific manner through hands-on experiences. Two fully equipped labs are a part of the middle school: one exclusively for chemistry and the other for biology and physics. The labs are large and spacious providing ample space and opportunity for performing experiments and holding classes. The senior school has separate labs for all three science streams.
The sports facilities include a large 12,000 square feet indoor gymnasium for games like badminton, table tennis gymnastics. Over eight acres of playgrounds are dedicated for sports like football, basketball, hockey, cricket, athletics, volleyball, kho-kho and kabaddi. A skating rink and a free play area for small children are also provided on campus.
The Eklavya School is affiliated with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) and follows the ICSE and ISC curriculum.
The Eklavya School aims to provide junior school students with exposure to a variety of inputs (language, technology, arts) at an early age so as to allow them to develop a taste in their particular area of interest. This ability to appreciate abstract concepts develops only by the age of 11 – 12. This is the basis of curriculum development for different classes at Eklavya School.
Middle school deals with students of classes V to VIII, the age group from 10 to 13. This is an age where children undergo remarkable changes both physically and psychologically. It is the ideal time to introduce them to a wider range of subjects and a varied choice in sports and activities.
Students are exposed to different subjects and the teaching methodology involves more of experimentation and learning through experience. Overhead projectors, teaching learning materials, exposure to the world of books, magazines, periodicals in the library and projects are used by educators extensively to enhance and enrich the learning process.
Middle school provides the right balance of academics, sports, activities and personality development. Students are given the opportunity to select sports and activities of their preference. A student enters middle school as a playful and curious child in the fifth standard and emerges from class VIII as a responsible, confident and focused student ready to step into the serious world of academics in senior school.
Senior school students are prepared for the board exams and appear for the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) and the Indian School Certificate (ISC) examinations conducted in classes X and XII respectively.
Mr. Hiren Parikh
In line with its philosophy that each child is unique and has her own inborn gifts and talents, Eklavya School believes that it is neither fair nor possible to “test” very young children. Accordingly, admissions to the pre-school and junior school are done on a first-come-first-serve basis. For admission to middle school, students have to undergo a test for eligibility.
The admission procedure of Eklavya School, Ahmedabad is a documented transparent procedure, which is audited to ensure that it is implemented in letter and spirit. It does not offer admission based on influence exerted. There is no management quota for seats. Attempts to use unfair means to secure admission or bypass the admission procedure will lead to disqualification of the application.
Eklavya School ranks 16th in the Education World national rankings.
No accommodation is provided as Eklavya School is a day school.
