The Alluri Sitarama Raju Educational Society has emerged as a sustainability frontrunner by making renewable energy central to its daily operations. The institution has installed a 500-kilowatt peak (kWp) rooftop solar system across its campus, designed and commissioned by Orb Energy, a leading solar solutions provider.
The system, comprising 1,540 modules of 325 Wp each and eight inverters of 66 kVA, generates sufficient clean energy to meet a major share of the campus’s daytime requirements. It is expected to deliver annual savings of ₹50 lakh, with a payback period of just over three years.
“This 500-kilowatt rooftop solar system is a small contribution to the nation’s renewable energy mission, while also helping us reduce high electricity bills,” said Sri Gokaraju Gangaraju, Chairman of the Society.
Beyond financial savings, the initiative aims to inspire students by transforming sustainability from a theoretical concept into an everyday reality. With most of the campus’s electricity consumption occurring during daylight hours — classrooms, laboratories, libraries, and administrative offices — solar production aligns seamlessly with operational needs, ensuring a reliable power supply and minimising disruptions.
Damian Miller, CEO and co-founder of Orb Energy, noted: “By integrating rooftop solar into its infrastructure, Alluri Sitarama Raju Educational Society has shown that sustainability can be both financially viable and educationally enriching. The panels above classrooms are a daily reminder that the future of energy is clean and renewable.”
Savings from the project are intended to be reinvested into enhancing learning facilities, upgrading laboratories, and funding scholarships, directly linking clean energy adoption with academic excellence.
With declining solar equipment costs and financing models such as Orb Energy’s zero-collateral repayment plans, the institution’s success offers a replicable model for educational campuses nationwide.
