21st century residential schooling

Since the turn of the 21st century, India’s K-12 education landscape, long overshadowed by central and state government regulated public schools, has been witnessing a steady transformation with the entry of private players. Over the past two decades, these private day schools have become a popular choice among India’s burgeoning middle class households notably because of the high quality education they offer vis-a-vis government schools. Besides raising the standards and quality of K-12 education in the country, private players have also been playing a significant role in educating the masses of India.

However, an interesting trend that has caught on since the past decade is the increasing popularity of private boarding schools sited in verdant settings away from the din and bustle of urban life. India’s aspirational middle class parents have been increasingly preferring boarding school education over private day schools for their children as of late.

An important factor that has paved way for the increasing popularity of these new-genre boarding schools is the emergence of double income nuclear households in urban India. Unable to make time for full-time parenting, working parents often opt for well rounded boarding school education for their children who benefit immensely from a well balanced curriculum and sound pastoral care that these schools offer.

Another factor that has spurred the demand for holistic residential schooling over the past decade is the salubrious campuses of these boarding schools that are much sought after for their clean, unpolluted air and ideal learning environment.

Moreover, boarding schools today are no longer the turf of pristine hill stations alone. Several of the new-genre boarding schools are sited in suburban locales that are easily accessible from India’s metros, Tier I & Tier II cities making weekly boarding feasible for children of working parents who look forward to some quality family time during weekends.

Then of course, there is no substitute for well rounded boarding school education when it comes to endowing students with some of the critical 21st century skills such as communication and life skills thereby giving them a headstart in life. A well rounded boarding school education has been proven to offer better learning outcomes with smaller class sizes and close interaction with the teacher-mentors. It nurtures independent thinkers and doers and grooms the students well for life in the university and beyond.

Against the backdrop of the steady demand for holistic 21st century residential schooling in India, Sadbhavana World School, Kozhikode – one of south India’s top ranked coeducational day schools offering a choice of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the globally acclaimed Cambridge curriculum – has launched weekly and annual boarding plans for students of grade 6 through 12 (A Level). Sprawled over a 29 acre verdant campus in the coastal city of Kozhikode in Kerala, the school has indeed been living up to its motto of “bringing the world to the classroom” since its inception in 2008. With the launch of its boarding facility, Sadbhavana World School is all set to offer the best in class 21st century residential schooling experience to students from not just India but from across the border too.
