The Girls Government Senior Secondary School (GGSSS), NIT-5, Faridabad, has been recognised among the world’s top ten schools in the Supporting Healthy Lives category of the prestigious World’s Best School Prizes 2025, organised by UK-based T4 Education. It is the only Indian school to feature in this category, alongside schools from the UK, Turkey, Malaysia, Brazil and others.
A representative from T4 Education visited the school earlier this year to assess its health education programme, implemented in collaboration with Tarang Health Alliance. The initiative, introduced in twelve government schools across Haryana, integrates physical, mental and social health education into the school curriculum, while also engaging parents through regular workshops.
T4 Education praised the school as “an Indian institution transforming the lives of at-risk girls by prioritising their physical health and mental wellbeing through public education”. Its wellbeing-focused model interlinks nutrition, physical fitness, mental health support and community engagement, helping girls overcome challenges of poverty, gender discrimination and early marriage. The school also shares its practices at state level, becoming a benchmark for others in the region.
Former Principal, Seema Bhrigu, highlighted the positive impact of the programme: “Tarang Health Alliance integrated health education into our curriculum with the help of a dedicated health teacher. Through creative methods and parental involvement, we saw significant improvements in students’ health, attendance and academic motivation. It became evident that a healthy child can achieve anything.”
By embedding health and wellbeing into everyday learning, GGSSS NIT-5 is empowering a generation of young women to rise above adversity and embrace their full potential.
