In this week’s video about Getting Kids to Eat Healthy, Sushant Kalra, founder, Parwarish – Workshops for Parents, Teachers and Children shares the following two tips with parents:

Did you know that when it comes to food, all tastes are acquired? Which means we do not like a taste when we first experience it but tend to like it more as we experience it a second or a third time. So instead of giving in when kids refuse to eat some healthy home cooked dish because they do not like the taste, persuade them to try atleast a small portion of it. If they don’t even try it, they will never acquire a taste for it.

Think of how excited your kids and you are while stepping out for a family lunch/dinner at a restaurant. Everyone wants to dress up well and is already fantasizing about what he/she wants to eat for dinner. Can this excitement and joy be replicated while having a home-made meal together as a family? Maybe the kids can help in laying the table or maybe you can eat outdoors in the lawn or on the balcony so everyone enjoys the new experience. You can try out different options to make eating at home an enjoyable family affair that your kids as well as you look forward to. For unless you enjoy eating at home, kids will never do because you are their role models after all!
