Avani Prashanth, a grade VI student of Greenwood High participated and won the IGU Yes Bank Northern India Junior Girls Golf Championship in Category C (Girls 11-13 years). The tournament was conducted by the Indian Golf Union at Panchkula Golf Club, near Chandigarh recently. She played rounds of 3 over, 8 over and Level par to finish with a score of 227 to come from behind and win the tournament by 1 stroke ahead of Nishna Patel (228) of St. Gregorios High School, Mumbai. Avani’s level par round was the only level par round of the tournament by any player in any age category despite being one of the youngest players in the tournament.
Avani has been playing Golf since the age of 3. Avani practices regularly at Eagleton Golf Club and Karnataka Golf Association. Avani’s list of achievements include top 5 finishes at the US Kids Golf World Championship at Pinehurst North Carolina in 2014, 2015 and 2016 under Girls 7, Girls 8 and Girls 9 respectively and Top 5 in the U.S Kids Golf European Championship in 2016, 2017 and 2018. She has won the Order of Merit in 2015 and 2017 by winning all the tournaments conducted by South Zone Junior Golf under the auspices of the Indian Golf Union.
