In August this year, thousands in Kerala were rendered homeless as the coastal state was submerged in flood water following several days of unprecedented rainfall. Against this backdrop, Bangalore based Greenwood High International School, like several other institutions, did its bit to alleviate the suffering of those who were adversely affected by generating relief materials worth Rs. 12 lakh (approximately). With the help of NGO “Goonj”, working for Kerala relief activities, the effort came to fruition with two trucks rolling out of the gates of the school in altruistic spirit.
The list of relief items included non-perishable food items such as oil, rice, dal, sugar, milk powder, flour, coconut oil, also new clothes, footwear, bed sheets and pillow covers, sanitary napkins, stationeries, kitchen sets and other household items of daily requirements. The collection drive began a week after the calamity struck Kerala when the entire Greenwood family including students, parents and the trustee joined hands to contribute generously and initiate the philanthropic gesture.
Speaking on the occasion, Niru Agarwal, Trustee, Greenwood High International School said, “Much as we believe in inculcating the values of benevolence and philanthropy among our students, we practise these ventures ourselves too. This time we all have fallen short of words witnessing the amount of enthusiasm with which our students and parents responded to the call. It was the students’ way of conveying to those affected, that they are with them under any circumstance. Greenwood High has always been compassionate to help those in need and we continue to do so. During the Uttarakhand floods in 2013 too, the students had raised an amount of Rs 50 Lakh along with food, clothing to ease the suffering of the victims. They had even come forward to do their bit during Chennai floods in 2015.”
Promoted in 2004, Greenwood High is a highly-reputed day cum residential international school based in Bangalore offering IB, IGCSE and ICSE curriculum.
